Susan Algert, PhD, is a registered dietitian using nutrition and therapeutic diets to heal chronic diseases. She is the west coast authority on gluten free diets, having worked as the Clinical Research Nutritionist for the Warren Celiac Center at the University of California School of Medicine from 2006 until 2009. Her work includes numerous radio, print and other media interviews.
Dr Algert is also an accomplished culinarian and author of the UCSD Healthy Diet for Diabetes: A Comprehensive Nutritional Guide and Cookbook. She conducted the last unscripted interview with Julia Child regarding American culinary culture in her home at the age of 91, which was published in the journal Nutrition Today in 2004.
Currently, Dr Algert works to promote healthy eating by teaching people to grow and preserve their own fresh fruits and vegetables with an emphasis on gluten-free menu planning. Her work has expanded to include treatment of all types of digestive disorders, food sensitivities, and imbalances of the gut microbiota. She is committed, above all else, to helping people improve their health and well being through the curative power of food and holistic nutrition.
Dr. Algert has devoted over 30 years to practice as a clinical dietitian. She obtained her undergraduate degree in dietetics from the University of California, Davis, an MS in nutrition from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and a PhD is in Social Science from the University of California, Irvine. She retired as a professor from the California State University system in 2006 to return to clinical practice and research with the University of California.

It is very important that you schedule an appointment with a dietitian familiar with the gluten-free diet as soon as possible.
